WILSON, Wyo. — Following two summers of construction, Granite Canyon Trailhead will reopen on Wednesday, Nov. 1, according to Grand Teton National Park (GTNP).
Improvements to the trailhead include an expanded parking lot, new sidewalks for improved accessibility, vault toilets, a bicycle rack, a bench and an information kiosk, GTNP Public Affairs Specialist C.J. Adams told Buckrail.
“The newly improved Granite Canyon Trailhead will provide a better visitor experience for those who plan to hike, ski or just take in the magnificent scenery that the Moose-Wilson Corridor offers in Grand Teton National Park,” Adams said.
The expanded parking lot will provide space for approximately 32 vehicles, a major change from the informal gravel lot that once held eight to 10 vehicles. The renovation is expected to help reduce “haphazard” roadside parking in the area, the park said.
There will also be new signage along the roadway guiding visitors to the lot, as well as removable bollards and snow poles. In addition, a new hiking trail connection has been added to the trailhead, and the horse trail has been rerouted around the new facilities. The park reused native boulders in the landscaping, and topsoil was conserved, redistributed and reseeded. More planting in the area is planned for next autumn.
Construction on the trailhead was carried out in tandem with the refurbishment of Moose-Wilson Road, which reopened in August.
