Free car seat check offered Saturday

JACKSON, Wyo. — Is your child’s car seat installed correctly?

There’s a good chance it isn’t. “Eight out of 10 car seats are installed improperly,” said Fire Marshal Kathy Clay.

Jackson Hole Fire/EMS, in partnership with Teton Motors and the Jackson Kiwanis Club, will offer a free car seat checkup this Saturday, November 16 from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. at the Subaru dealership on 405 Powderhorn Lane.

Certified car seat technicians will be available through the event to assist caregivers regarding car seat installation information.

“Using properly installed car seats with children properly fitted in these seats will help reduce injuries in car crashes,” Clay said.

Technicians from the Children’s Learning Center, Teton County Health Department, and Jackson Hole Fire/EMS will offer car seat checkups and next-step education tips. Translators will be present to assist.

New car seats will be available during the event. Often car seats have expired and must be replaced.

Donations will be accepted for these car seats and/or for the car seat program.

“As winter approaches, this is a perfect time to check car seat installations,” Clay said. “We are excited to collaborate with all the partnerships involved to make this a great community event.”
