JACKSON, Wyo. — On Sunday, Sept. 29, the “Classic Cars and Old Barns” driving tour invites community members to show off their classic cars while driving across 25 miles of beautiful country visiting some of Teton County’s most iconic barns.
Three local nonprofits, the Teton Trust for Historic Places, History Jackson Hole and the Teton County Historic Preservation Board are hosting this first-of-its-kind tour. Classic and exotic car owners are encouraged to drive their unique autos, but the tour is open to all vehicles.
The self-guided event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday. At each of the four historic barns on the self-paced driving tour, participants will discover a featured classic car and a private barn tour. The day ends with a BBQ lunch, live music and a signature cocktail by JH Stillworks at the Rocking H Ranch situated along the Snake River. To cap the event, participants will vote for their favorite car from a lineup of classic and exotic cars.
The three heritage nonprofits teamed up to create an opportunity for the community to appreciate these unsung buildings whose colorful past is woven throughout the landscape.
“Who doesn’t love to explore a hidden corner of a barn or ogle at a 1920s roadster?” event organizer, Katherine Wonson, asked. “Classic Cars and Old Barns offers a special experience, combining local passion for our iconic historic barns and great old cars.”
Classic Cars and Old Barns hopes to raise awareness of the significance of our historic structures and the contribution they make to our community identity and western character.
According to the Teton Trust for Historic Places “Jackson’s built history is often overlooked as ‘too young’ to be of note but there is a rich story that can be told from the rafters, root cellars and ribbon display rooms of these old barns.”
To keep the experience special, tickets are limited. Tickets can be purchased at carsandbarns.com ($75/person or $200/car). Prices go up on September 23. All event proceeds will benefit the three local heritage-focused nonprofit organizations. For more information email info@carsandbarns.com or call 307-690-5062.
