JACKSON, Wyo. —The Wyoming Game and Fish Department (WGFD) will host four meetings to engage with the public about the recently released draft Wyoming Elk Feedgrounds Management Plan for the 22 Game and Fish-operated feedgrounds in western Wyoming.

The Jackson meeting will be at the Teton County Public Library, July 24 at 6 p.m. An online meeting will be streamed online via Zoom on July 25 at 6 p.m.

According to WGFD, the goal of the plan is to “reduce elk’s reliance on feedgrounds/increase opportunities for elk to winter away from feedgrounds to decrease disease transmission amongst the elk.”

Game and Fish also says the plan aims to maintain elk populations and hunting opportunities, limit damage to private property, disease transmission to livestock and competition with other wildlife species.

“I am hopeful the public and stakeholders will continue to provide feedback on the draft plan as we work together to address the long-term management of elk feedgrounds,” said Game and Fish Director Brian Nesvik. “Continued public review and input will help us make necessary changes that will guide the finalization of the plan. We have already received some constructive support, feedback and critique.”

Two other meetings will be held in Pinedale at the Sublette County Public Library on July 26 at 6 p.m. and at Afton Civic Center on July 27 at 6 p.m.

The steering team has developed a comment form and will be accepting public comments through Sept. 10. The steering team will make revisions to the draft plan based on comments received. The final plan will be presented to the Wyoming Game and Fish Commission at their November 14-15 meeting in Cody.
