JACKSON HOLE, WYO – So you want to be a rancher? Only problem is you don’t know the first thing about it. How do you start the Farmall? What’s the difference between an angus and a brangus? Which way is the back 40?

The Discover the Ranch event might be just what you need to get started. Join University of Wyoming Extension, Teton Conservation District, and Snake River Ranch for an educational opportunity focused on rangelands and agriculture. This program is geared toward those who have little or no experience in agriculture and would like to learn more about the relationship between ranching, ecosystem processes, and agricultural land use in Wyoming.

A field tour at Snake River Ranch will provide an opportunity to see a working ranch and ask questions of experienced staff.

It takes place Saturday, August 4, 10am-12pm. The day will start with a short, one-hour presentation at from10-11am at the Teton County 4H/UW Extension Office in Jackson. After that, it’s off to the Snake River Ranch on Teton Village Road.

The tour is open to all. There is no age limit, though minors will need to be with an adult. There will be some walking involved with the ranch tour. There is no cost to attend, but registration is required.

Contact Glenn Owings at gowings@uwyo.edu or call 307-367-4380 to register (or with questions). There will be a limit of 30 participants.

The event will go on rain or shine. Transportation from the classroom to the ranch is not provided.
