JACKSON, Wyo. — A new wildland fire has broken out deep in the Gros Ventre Wilderness as of Tuesday afternoon, according to Bridger-Teton National Forest (BTNF).

According to emergency pageouts at 3:45 p.m., the Kinky Creek Fire was thought to be about 1 acre. BTNF posted to social media at 4:24 p.m. stating that Teton Interagency Fire crews are responding to the now 5-acre fire, which is on the Jackson Ranger District of BTNF. The blaze is located about 3 miles south of Darwin Ranch, near upper Gros Ventre Falls.

The fire has “high spread potential,” per BTNF, and the cause is undetermined. A type 3 helicopter is on the scene. Two type 1 helictopters, smokejumpers, fire crews and additional resources have been ordered.

Fire danger in the Teton County region was elevated to high as of June 18.
