JACKSON, Wyo. — Lightning sparked a new wildfire on Bridger-Teton National Forest (BTNF) on Sunday, according to an announcement by BTNF on Monday.
The Boulder Creek Fire is located about a mile west of Jack Pine Summer Homes in Granite Creek, part of BTNF’s Jackson Ranger District. The fire was estimated to be 0.1 to 0.25 acres in size as of Monday morning.

“Resources responding to the fire include Teton Helitack personnel with a type 3 helicopter, and a direct extinguishment strategy is being implemented,” BTNF shared Monday morning. “Fire managers expect to gain containment of the fire by this evening.”
Fire danger in the Teton Interagency Dispatch area is considered “high” as of June 18. BTNF noted that firefighting resources were dispatched to Phillips Ridge to respond to a smoke report on Monday morning, only to discover “a large campfire, which was extinguished.”
In locations where fires are permitted, follow these tips to keep fire under control:
- Never leave a campfire unattended.
- Have a shovel and water bucket on hand.
- Use several gallons of water to fully extinguish the campfire.
- Drown, stir, feel and repeat until the ashes are cold to the touch.
- Break up charred logs and cover all remains with dirt.
To report a fire or smoke in the immediate area, call the Teton Interagency Fire Dispatch Center at (307) 739-3630. For more on fire safety, see the agency’s website.
