JACKSON, Wyo. — Teton County’s Nixle alert system will be signing off for good in the new year, according to an announcement by Teton County Emergency Management.

The system will be discontinued as of Jan. 1, 2026, and fully replaced by Teton_WY Alerts, which has been live since February 2024. Those who still use the Nixle system for Teton Pass closures and other public notifications will need to sign up for the upgraded system to continue receiving updates via text message or email in 2026.

Per Teton County, Teton_WY Alerts is the principal method of communication for local officials to share safety information and protective action instructions. These could be related to wildfire evacuations, extended power outages, hazardous materials spills or other emergency situations.

“Teton_WY Alerts is a capable platform that will better serve our community in times of disaster by delivering information straight to subscribers’ phones, emails and other devices,” said Teton County Emergency Manager Rich Ochs via news release. “I hope every household in Teton County registers at least one person for Teton_WY Alerts before the new year.”

As previously reported by Buckrail, Nixle sent 1,396 emergency alerts between 2009 and 2023, with over 15,000 subscribers.

Anyone can sign up for the new alert system. Users will be prompted to add at least one address within Teton County when registering, which allows emergency managers to use geo-targeting for alerts for specific areas. Up to five addresses can be added on one profile, and multiple contact methods can be chosen, including text message, voice call, email, fax and more.
