JACKSON, Wyo. — Teton County Emergency Management announced Oct. 23 that the county’s emergency notification system, Nixle, will be replaced with “Teton _WY Alerts,” through a two-phase migration process.
According to Teton County Emergency Management, 15,668 people subscribe to Nixle. Since May 2009, 1,396 emergency messages have been sent. The new system is operated by Everbridge.
During the first phase, which begins this week, current subscribers will be automatically migrated over to Everbridge. A few test messages should be expected, to ensure the new system is working, says Teton County Emergency Management.
Spanish language subscribers will not get translated messages during the first phase. Users will need to click the link in the text notification and will be routed to the website where the page can be translated.
“When the transition to Everbridge is complete there will be a translation feature built-in; this is only a temporary solution,” says Teton County Emergency Management.
The second phase will occur over the next month and a web member portal will be released.
“This will give you the opportunity to share your address for more targeted emergency messaging, add multiple phone numbers and email addresses to get alerts, download an app to get mobile push notifications and add access for TTY devices for the deaf and hard-of-hearing,” Teton County Emergency Management said. “By providing an address, you can also register for automated weather alerts based on the locations you provide.”
For those who haven’t subscribed, the same process will still be used; text TETON_WY to 888777.
