JACKSON, Wyo. — During the Town Council’s recent workshop, the council voted to approve a complete street design for Vine Street, between Kelly Ave. and Snow King Ave.

Town staff will now move forward with design plans for sidewalks along both sides of Vine Street as well as 5-foot furnishing zones to provide a natural barrier between traffic and pedestrians.

The section by Kelly Ave. has a smaller right of way, so the sidewalk will be attached in that section, but further down the corridor detached sidewalks are possible and fit into the current right of way, explained Johnny Ziem, assistant public works director.

Along with the sidewalks, new street lights will be installed with dark-sky-compliant LED lights. No additional streetlights will be added.

The project aligns with other work in the area to replace water and sewer infrastructure and portions of the road subgrade.

Ziem said most people who commented during the zoom engagement session on March 10 were happy to have sidewalks and were fairly open to improvements.

“Of the options, I was most inclined to alternative 3. I think safety is most important and there should be sidewalks on both sides,” Thomas Smits said during the zoom meeting on March 10.

The estimated cost is $551,000 and construction is slated to begin in fiscal year 2024.

According to the staff report, funding for the project is slated to come from the 2017 SPET, Town Capital funds, Water Enterprise funds and Sewer Enterprise funds.
