WYOMING – The National Park Service is reporting a climbing fatality on Devils Tower yesterday. Matthew Sorenson, 39, of Gillette was climbing with friends when he fell to his death from the Sundance climbing route. Sorenson suffered massive head trauma and was pronounced dead on the scene. He was wearing a helmet.
The incident is still being investigated by NPS and the Crook County Sheriff’s Office.
It was the first climbing fatality on the tower since 2003. Devils Tower attracts thousands of climbers every year.
