JACKSON, Wyo. — COVID-19 will cause Halloween to be celebrated differently this fall. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention has issued considerations for the upcoming fall and winter holiday season.
The CDC has issued guidelines on their website saying, “you should not participate in in-person Halloween festivities and should not give out candy to trick-or-treaters.”
That doesn’t mean Halloween is canceled. A great alternative to traditional trick-or-treating is one-way trick-or-treating with individually wrapped goodie bags placed outside for trick-or-treaters, so they can maintain physical distance.
Low-risk safe alternatives to trick-or-treating include carving pumpkins, decorating your house or apartment, or attending virtual costume parties. The main focus is keeping celebrations within the household and maintaining a safe distance when participating in activities outside of the home.
This Halloween season, incorporate a mask into your costume. The CDC has provided a complete list of considerations for upcoming holidays, meant to supplement, not replace state, local, territorial or tribal health and safety laws, rules, and regulations.
