WYOMING – Green River resident Mike Mullins could not believe what he saw as he walked along the shore of Flaming Gorge Reservoir. A doe pronghorn antelope fell off a cliff near Brinegar’s Ferry and was stranded in the rockwalled water below, surrounded by cliffs and rocks.

It was Wednesday, August 8 at about 4pm when Green River Game and Fish office manager Sheila Deinhardt received the call from Mullins. Green River Game Warden Cody Schoonover, Green River Wildlife Biologist Patrick Burke, and Deinhardt drove to the Gorge and launched a boat to see what they could do to help her.

With Schoonover operating the boat, Burke and Dienhardt nudged and encouraged the doe to swim towards an area where she could climb out to safety. The crew nosed her with the boat and made her swim to an area that she could get out of the water and actually make it back up on top. After many episodes of swimming and resting, the doe finally found a place to climb out.
