JACKSON, Wyo. — Title this: “While you were quarantining.”

Zippia analyzed Google search trends during the past five months as the nation quarantined and basically stayed closer to home and plugged in. With all the additional screen time, Zippia thought it a perfect opportunity to find out what it is we are interested in knowing from the all-knowing Googler.

And the results are, well, entertaining.

State by state, America is coping, if oddly so, with the new reality of virtual living. Some of it predictably accurate. Some of it bizarre.

For instance, Washington wants to know how to roll sushi. Makes sense. Missouri is interested in the best recipe for cooking up a batch of meth, they’re looking for boxed wine in Minnesota, and barbecuing is on the minds of Alabamans as it should be.

That all seems to check out.

But then there’s the border war between Colorado and New Mexico where the former wants to know how best to get on the wagon, while the latter is researching “day drinking.”

Texans can’t get to sleep, Idahoans want to ween themselves from Facebook, and in Pennsylvania they can’t seem to keep their potted plants alive.

“We searched hundreds of terms ranging from outdoor activities to DIY, copious foods and drinks, self-improvement…and not self-improvement. Interesting is subjective, selected based on what we thought was the most fun. Your opinion may vary,” says Zippia.

The time period for the study ranged from April to August 2020.

It’s fun to learn what our neighbors are most interested in. For Wyoming, it was a rather mundane fixation with hot wings. Really? Chicken in beef country?
