JACKSON, Wyo. — The Bare Fire continues to demonstrate active fire behavior on the Big Piney Ranger District of the Bridger-Teton National Forest (BTNF), according to a Friday morning fire update. It was discovered Tuesday and its cause remains undetermined.
Type-3 incident management team Wyoming Team 3 assumed command of the wildfire yesterday; BTNF notes that 137 people are assigned to the incident as additional resources continue to arrive. The blaze held steady overnight at an estimated 800 acres in size.
“Although the Bare Fire saw no growth yesterday, several spot fires emerged, which aerial resources quickly detected and assisted ground crews in containing,” BTNF shared Friday morning. “Today, crews will continue direct extinguishment strategies.”
BTNF issued a road and area closure related to the fire to protect the public and firefighters, as depicted in the map above. The Sublette County Sheriff’s Office has placed High Lonesome Ranch in the “set” stage (using the “Ready, Set, Go” evacuation preparedness scale). “Crews will also continue assessing and implementing structure protection measures on private property as needed,” the Friday update states. “Today’s weather is expected to remain hot, dry and windy. Smoke will continue to linger across the area due to ongoing wildfires throughout the western United States.”
