Bar-B-C-Ranch

JACKSON HOLE, WYOMING – A historic Jackson Hole dude ranch in Grand Teton National Park will get some much-needed restoration love after being neglected for years.

HistoriCorps, a Denver-based national nonprofit dedicated to preserving America’s historic structures, in collaboration with Grand Teton National Park, the Western Center of Historic Preservation, and Grand Teton National Park Foundation, will work to preserve the Bar B-C Ranch from August 26 – October 5, 2018.

The Bar B-C Ranch is a moment frozen in time, one that this project aims to preserve by arresting decay to the greatest extent possible. In the early 1900’s, settlers who once ran unprofitable cattle operations in difficult conditions began hosting wealthy Easterners looking for a “rustic cowboy experience.”

They soon realized that simulating cowboy work on their dude ranches was much more profitable, not to mention easier, than actually being cowboys. They also found, as the old saying goes, “Dudes winter better than cattle.”

HistoriCorps Executive Director Townsend Anderson is excited that HistoriCorps has the opportunity to participate in the preservation of this iconic ranch.

“The partners with whom we are working attest to the high significance of the Bar B-C Ranch to Wyoming’s heritage. Ranches and mining contribute mightily to the cultural and historic landscapes of the west, and HistoriCorps welcomes each and every opportunity to assist in their preservation. It is who we are and what we love to do,” Anderson said.
