YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK — Jackson’s favorite Yellowstone entrance is opening tomorrow.

Yellowstone National Park (YNP) announced Wednesday that it is on track to open its South Entrance on Friday, May 10, so long as the weather cooperates. In the announcement, YNP noted that visitors should anticipate winter conditions as snow and ice is still present in the the park and on some park roads. Temporary closures are possible due to late spring storms, so keep Yellowstone’s park roads website bookmarked.

The following roads are scheduled to open to vehicles at 8 a.m. on Friday:

  • South Entrance to West Thumb
  • West Thumb to Old Faithful (Craig Pass)
  • West Thumb to Lake Village
  • Tower-Roosevelt to Tower Fall

The park’s East and West entrances opened earlier this spring. The North and Northeast entrances are open year-round. Dunraven Pass, which connects Canyon Village and Tower Fall, is slated to open on Friday, May 24.

YNP reminds visitors that park services are still limited in the spring. See the park’s operating dates site for specifics.

Visitors should also be vigilant about spring wildlife behavior, when bison, elk, bears and other animals are likely to use roads to travel through the park. Roadside snowbanks prevent animals from easily moving off the roads, YNP said, so do not crowd, harass or push wildlife. Stay at least 100 yards away from bears and wolves, and 25 yards from all other wildlife.
