YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK — Yellowstone National Park (YNP) announced on Thursday, May 16, that Dunraven Pass, a road connecting Canyon Village and Tower Fall within the park, had opened to visitors, a full week ahead of schedule.

Dunraven Pass was scheduled to open on Friday, May 24, but road crews finished plow operations quickly “due to mild winter conditions,” the park said in its announcement.

All of YNP’s roads are now open to visitors for the summer season, the park said. The Chittenden Road to Mount Washburn, however, is closed, the park noted. The South Entrance, the closest park entrance for Jacksonites, opened on May 10. Temporary closures are possible due to spring weather, so keep Yellowstone’s park roads website bookmarked.

YNP reminds visitors that park services are still limited in the spring. See the park’s operating dates site for specifics.

Visitors should also be vigilant about spring wildlife behavior, when bison, elk, bears and other animals are likely to use roads to travel through the park. Roadside snowbanks prevent animals from easily moving off the roads, YNP said, so do not crowd, harass or push wildlife. Stay at least 100 yards away from bears and wolves, and 25 yards from all other wildlife.
