YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK — Know an outdoorsy teen?

Yellowstone National Park (YNP) has opened applications for its 2024 Youth Conservation Corps (YCC), a residential work-based education program for youth ages 15 to 18.

Two YCC sessions will be offered this summer: the first running June 9 to July 10 and the second running July 14 to Aug. 13. Forty applicants will be randomly selected from across the country to participate, according to YNP.

“No previous wilderness experience is necessary, but enjoying camping is a plus since it will be required four nights a week during work assignments,” YNP said in its announcement. “Applicants should possess a positive attitude, a willingness and ability to work and learn in a physically active outdoor program and get along well with others.”

YCC members will live in the park, and pay “a minimal fee” for room and board. They will earn $10.50 per hour, YNP said. They will work with YNP staff on conservation projects including trail rehabilitation and campground restoration, as well as resource management, visitor support services and maintenance projects.

Apply by March 1 via the YCC program website. Questions can be emailed to YELL_YCC_Office@nps.gov.
