JACKSON HOLE, WYO – Okay, how old was that left-hand turn off of Broadway onto Highway 22 at the “Y” getting? Crikees, that was brutal after dropping the kids off at school in the morning or trying to get home after work. The queue sometimes stretched back as far as Shervins.
WYDOT has some good news, though. Motorists can now utilize two left turn lanes onto WYO 22 at the Y intersection. Wyoming Department of Transportation and contract crews are nearing completion of the interim design changes to the Y. The free right onto WYO 22 has been closed; Buffalo Way is now a right-out only, and the intersection currently being re-striped and will be re-signed. Crews hope to have the permanent signal structure in by mid-December.
Two turning lanes to hop onto Wyo 22 will be great once we all get familiar with using them.
“It’s a big adjustment for people who having been using a single turn lane onto WYO 22 for decades. The new striping will help ease locals into not lining up in a single lane,” said WYDOT’s resident engineer Bob Hammond.
Although the new traffic configuration will be in use this year, crews will be back to pave the intersection next spring.
