JACKSON, Wyo. — The Teton County Fair added a new event this year: extreme medieval jousting.

The stands at the Jackson Hole Rodeo arena were packed with revelers on Wednesday night, shouting for their favorite knights to knock each other off of giant “warhorses.”

Challengers hailed from Utah, Colorado and Canada. One of the competitors was known as “the Mountain,” and weighed in at more than 500 lbs. while in his armor.

One rider was “unhorsed” by a particularly powerful jab, but everyone survived the showdown in one piece.

Observers were also treated to swordfights by knights between jousting runs. Sounds of clanging metal could be heard throughout the arena.

The event was performed by the Knights of Valour, who bring their Full Metal Jousting program to Renaissance faires and other events across the country.
