JACKSON, Wyo. — A little precipitation rarely slows down local fauna.

This week, Buckrail photographer Nick Sulzer came across wildlife navigating the freshly fallen snow on the valley floor.

A local bear took off running into the snowy woods shortly after being spotted. This week’s storm produced snow totals of up to 13 inches in the Tetons above 8,000 feet, according to Buckrail Meteorologist Alan Smith.

Luckily, moose are well-suited for winter weather survival. According to the National Park Service, moose grow fur ideal for winter with long, hollow strands of hair that make up a dense undercoat, trapping air and keeping them warm. Their chocolate color helps them absorb every ray of sunshine, and their nasal passages are even designed to heat air when it’s inhaled, warming their lungs.

It’s not immediately clear what this moose is up to, but winter survival can look different for everyone.
