JACKSON, Wyo. — The Flat Creek Bridge will likely remain under construction until June 10, according to a Thursday statement from the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT).

Work crews are currently wrapping up repairs on the second half of the bridge, the east side, and are planning to change the traffic pattern once again on Saturday, May 30. Construction will move back to the west side of the bridge next week, where milling and repaving will take place.

“We ran into some material issues with the first side of the bridge deck,” said WYDOT’s Resident Engineer Bob Hammond. “To make sure we have a quality project that meets state specifications, we will be milling some areas and repaving the deck on the first side.”

New concrete is expected to be poured on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week, then it will need approximately one week to set, per WYDOT. Hammond said in the statement that, despite having to rework the first side of the bridge, the project is still scheduled for completion on June 10, and he expects to hit the deadline.

The bridge will continue to carry two-lane traffic, and drivers should avoid the area if possible. WYDOT said that commuters should expect delays during high-traffic hours. Use caution and patience with others on the road and don’t forget to use the zipper merge.
