JACKSON, Wyo. — The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) has announced that the Swinging Bridge removal project will affect traffic on Wednesday, Dec. 6.

WYDOT and contract crews from Reiman Corp. will reduce traffic on US 26/89/189/191 to one lane in each direction near Swinging Bridge Road from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday for the removal of the center section of the Swinging Bridge.

At some point during those work hours, the road will have to be closed from Swinging Bridge Road north to the Snake River near the Evans Construction yard for approximately 30 minutes while crews transport the old bridge to the Bureau of Land Management property there. WYDOT will send an alert via 511 Notify before the road closure begins.

“Due to the size of the old Swinging Bridge structure, and the difficulty with turning movements and travel, the highway must be free of traffic to move it,” WYDOT said via press release.

Commuters are “strongly” advised to avoid the area if possible. Drivers should be prepared for delays.
