WILSON, Wyo. — The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) has shared a construction update on its Fish Creek Bridge project, noting that crews are on track to finish work by the end of the week.

WYDOT closed the Fish Creek Bridge portion of WY22 through downtown Wilson on Wednesday to allow for repairs to the bridge’s base, leading drivers to use a detour through residential streets. The agency originally planned for a completion date of Saturday, Nov. 15.

“We are shooting for an opening Thursday, which will be one day ahead of schedule,” WYDOT Resident Engineer Bob Hammond said in the update.

WYDOT shared that crews completed the tasks of milling off approximately 300 tons of old asphalt from the bridge deck and regrading the approaches to the bridge by Monday morning. Paving operations can begin tomorrow, and are expected to last for about two days, depending on weather.

“The driving surface of the bridge will be lower by 6 to 8 inches, that’s why we have to remove material and regrade the roadway,” Hammond said.

Once paving operations are complete, the agency shared, crews will be able to open the bridge to traffic.

While the detour remains in place, Teton County is enforcing vehicle restrictions in the area, including a 60,000-pound gross vehicle weight limit and guidelines about certain commercial vehicles. Wilson Elementary School students must be picked up and dropped off in a designated spot near the school’s rear entrance for safety purposes.
