WILSON, Wyo. — While the WY22 detour around Fish Creek Bridge repair is underway, Wilson Elementary School students can use a temporary drop-off and pick-up location for safer school access.

The detour routing WY22 drivers away from Fish Creek Bridge repair will include heavily increased one-way traffic in front of Wilson Elementary. Starting on Wednesday, the student drop-off area will be moved to the school’s rear entrance near the playground and staff parking area, according to a Friday announcement by Teton County Road and Levee, Teton County School District No. 1 and the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT).

“Parents will be directed to use the fire lane surrounding the school for student drop-off and pick-up,” the announcement reads. “A 36-by-36-inch red-and-white diamond-shaped sign reading ‘STUDENT DROP-OFF PICK-UP LANE [arrow]’ will mark the designated entry point. … Vehicles entering from WY22 will turn right onto the fire lane behind the school.”

WYDOT and school district staff are expected to be stationed in the vicinity to “manage traffic and prioritize bus movement to minimize delays.” Pedestrians and cyclists are advised to avoid Main Street due to travel restrictions and sidewalk closures.

Parking in front of the school will not be available outside of the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., reserved for late-arriving students and early pickups. Parents will not be allowed to park and walk students into the school while the detour is in place, the announcement states.
