WILSON, Wyo. — The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) has shared a progress update for the Big Fill Slide rebuild project along Teton Pass, stating that its crews are racing to complete work by the end of July.

Drivers have been using the temporary detour built in the weeks following the landslide at milepost 12.8 in June 2024. Now, crews from WYDOT and Ames Construction have entered the final phases of work to complete the permanent road repair by the end of July. WYDOT shared that crews have been clearing snow to prepare to rebuild and reinforce the slope. Construction elements this spring include “a robust drainage system, lightweight embankment and foundational improvements for the section of roadway,” per the agency.

Crews are working “around the clock, 6 days a week” to bring in the lightweight fill and other materials used to complete the embankment, WYDOT said. Slope stabilization work is slated to be completed by the end of June, with tentative plans to begin paving operations on the new roadway segment by the beginning of July.

“Travelers will see more activity in the coming weeks, with occasional heavy truck traffic moving in and out of the site,” WYDOT said in the announcement.
