JACKSON, Wyo. — An unidentified woman was seriously injured Tuesday after an accident on Shadow Mountain while riding an ATV on a guided trip.
Teton County Search and Rescue received the call to assist at approximately 1 p.m. on September 30. Two teams responded with the RZR side-by-side, a SAR truck, wheeled litter, and medical gear.
The RZR team headed up the dirt road while a ground team approached on foot from the Lost Creek Ranch trailhead. At about 3:45 p.m., the RZR team reached the patient and began assessing her condition.
The injuries were serious enough, TCSAR decided the best option would be to evacuate the patient with a helicopter. One hitch: the interagency chopper was in use by the Forest Service at the time, fighting a wildfire in Lincoln County.
Instead, the team called Air Idaho. Air Idaho accepted the mission and arrived on the scene at 4:35 p.m. TCSAR volunteers used the wheeled litter to transport the patient about a half-mile to the landing zone where she was loaded into the helicopter and airlifted to further medical treatment.
The victim’s name or condition is not known at this time.
