WILSON, WY— The idea for Jackson local Monica Purington’s new skin care company came to her on a surfing trip in Mexico.
After days in the hot sun and salt water, she learned to worship myriad healing qualities of coconut oil: as a sunburn saver, a hair masque, a full-body moisturizer. It really did it all. So when she got back to Jackson, she placed a jar of coconut oil in her bathroom and layered it on every day.
“Coconut oil is amazing for your skin in dry climates like Jackson, WY,” Purington said.“But, using a spoon to get the solidified oil out of the jar was super inconvenient and really messy. This is when I knew there had to be a better way.”
And so, Will.it Wellness was born. As Purington learned more about what skin care products should be—food for our largest organ—and what they actually are—often toxic goops—she began researching existing products. But she couldn’ts find a trustworthy option. So she made her own.
With several years of research and development under her belt, Monica launched Will.it Wellness this spring at the Slow Food for the Teton’s People’s Market and just last week launched the brands website, WillitWellness.com.
“We launched with two fully developed products, the Daily Dew Face Oil and the Basic Body Butter,” Purington said. “Both are products I personally use everyday and felt really comfortable and confident sharing.”
The product line is made up of 80 percent organically-sourced ingredients and is 100 percent plant based, with future plans to also incorporate some animal products like beeswax and beef tallow. Products do not contain parabens, synthetics, aluminum, silicones or drying alcohols.
There are currently several more products in development: a deodorant, lip chap, body oil and bar soap, all boasting natural, non-toxic ingredients.
Look for her products online or at the local People’s Market, Wednesday evenings at Snow King.
