PINEDALE, Wyo. — The U.S. Forest Service and Wyoming State Engineer’s Office have given permission to the White Pine Ski Resort to drill test water wells in order to determine if it will be possible to install snowmaking equipment for future ski seasons.

According to White Pine, the test drilling is planned for later this summer. If water is successfully identified, the next step is to formalize the snowmaking improvement plans and begin the NEPA approval process with the U.S. Forest Services. The NEPA approval process can take up to 18-months to two years.

“We are excited to begin capital improvements on White Pine Ski Resort which offers outstanding recreational opportunities for our community,” Chairman of the Board of Advisors of the White Pine Ski Resort Roy DeWitt said in the announcement. “This is a great first step in that process.”

Joe Ricketts recently purchased White Pine Ski Resort in May. The ski resort is a 363-acre parcel that sits on Forest land approximately 10 miles north of Pinedale.
