JACKSON, Wyo. — Know someone dedicated to conservation in Wyoming?
The Wyoming Game and Fish Department (WGFD) is seeking nominations for its Wyoming Outdoor Hall of Fame and for its new award, Youth Conservationist of the Year. Both honors aim to recognize “individuals who have made significant contributions to the state’s outdoor heritage,” according to WGFD.
The agency is accepting nominations through September 13. The Hall of Fame induction ceremony and presentation of the Youth Conservationist award will take place in March 2025.
WGFD has been recognizing the state’s conservationists with its Hall of Fame since 2004. This year marks the first that the agency will also honor a young person’s conservation efforts. All are welcome to nominate someone for either award.
For the Hall of Fame, WGFD is seeking those who have “worked consistently over many years to conserve Wyoming’s natural resources through volunteer service, environmental restoration, educational activities, audio/visual and written media, the arts and political and individual leadership.”
For its new youth award, WGFD will recognize someone 18 years old or younger who “has shown leadership and achievement in conservation.”
Guidelines for nominating someone for either recognition can be found on WGFD’s website.
Past Hall of Fame inductees include Curt Gowdy, Olaus and Mardy Murie, President Theodore Roosevelt and Bill Cody, among others.
