Skies will be mostly cloudy throughout the day on Thursday but conditions will remain dry with afternoon highs warming up into the low to mid 30s in the valley and into the mid 20s at 9,000 ft. Mountain winds will be out of the south at 20-30 mph with gusts to 40 mph, while valley winds will be out of the south/southeast at 5-15 mph. The next storm will arrive late Thursday night, and the National Weather Service in Riverton has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for all of Teton County from 2 am Friday until 5 pm Friday.
The latest trends with this storm are pointing toward a shorter duration event, and as a result, I’ve lowered my snow forecast slightly. Snow will arrive after midnight Thursday night and will fall heavily at times through midday Friday, before gradually tapering off by late Friday afternoon. Total snow amounts through Friday will range from 4-8″ in the Tetons and 1-3″ in the Jackson Hole Valley, with conditions drying out Friday night.
Temperatures during the day Friday will be steady in the upper 20s in the valley, while temperatures in the mountains at 9,000 ft will start out in the upper teens early before falling into the single digits in the afternoon. Mountain winds on Friday will shift from southwest to northwest at 15-30 mph with gusts to 40 mph, while valley winds will be out of the southwest at 10-20 mph with gusts to 25 mph.
Dry conditions can be expected for the holiday weekend with mostly cloudy skies on Saturday giving way to clearing skies on Sunday and Monday with a temperature inversion (warmer mountains, colder valley) developing.
