JACKSON, Wyo. — The Upper Snake River system is at 75% capacity, according to data from the Bureau of Reclamation, Columbia-Pacific Northwest Region.

Jackson Lake, Palisades, Grassy Lake, Island Park, Ririe, American Falls and Lake Walcott are included in the Upper Snake River system.

Jackson Lake is currently at 90% capacity and has 764,700-acre feet of water, as of July 20. Flows out of Jackson Dam are being maintained at about 2,000 cfs following a planned increase from 280 cfs to 2,000 cfs last week.

Palisades is at 86% full with 1,028,238 acre-feet of water.

Reservoir storage in the Upper Snake River basin is above average and well above the summer of 2022 levels. Water levels from the summers of 2021 and 2022 are in stark contrast to this year.

In 2021, water levels dropped to historically low levels in the system with capacity dropping to about 16% for the entire system and 11% for Palisades. According to Grand Teton National Park, such low levels on Jackson Lake had only been seen three times in the last 30 years.

In 2022, Jackson Lake was drawn down again to low levels. Colter Bay Marina on Jackson Lake closed on June 25 due to low water levels.
