GRAND TETON NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. — To honor National Trails Day on June 7, community members lent a hand to help restore trails at Schwabacher Landing in Grand Teton National Park (GTNP).
According to GTNP, 42 volunteers contributed over 160 hours of trail stewardship. On Tuesday, June 10, GTNP shared how much work was accomplished on “one of the park’s most iconic spots.”

GTNP wrote on Facebook that volunteers moved 12 tons of fill material to repair trail trenching and support easier travel. Volunteers also installed 22 feet of retaining wall to stabilize eroded areas of trail tread. Additionally, 150 feet of social trails or unofficial paths were rehabilitated and 45 feet of fencing was built to help keep hikers on the right path.
“Their efforts support better access for everyone and help protect the fragile habitat that surrounds this scenic stretch of trail,” GTNP wrote via Facebook. “Huge thanks to all who pitched in and shout out to the moose who stopped by for a photo opp!”

For those interesting in volunteering this summer, there will be various organized projects in the park on Thursdays at 9 a.m. Contact Angela Timby for more information at angela_timby@nps.gov or call (307) 739-3379.
