JACKSON, Wyo. — National Trails Day is Saturday, and there is a plethora of ways to pitch in toward caring for our local and regional trails. Friends of Pathways (FOP) will be partnering with Bridger-Teton National Forest (BTNF) to host a trail event on Teton Pass to celebrate the day.

From 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., FOP and BTNF will be working to complete some important trail projects, and they are inviting the public to join in on the fun. Those who would like to volunteer should meet the crew at the Trail Creek Trailhead, and bring work gloves, close-toed shoes and water.

According to FOP, the group will be working to improve Crater Lake Trail, as well as Parallel and lower Lithium trails. Tools will be provided by BTNF, and snacks and lunch will be provided by FOP. No experience is necessary.

BTNF will also be hosting an event at Slide Lake that day, with trail maintenance in the morning and a historical discussion about the Gros Ventre Slide in the afternoon. June 23 marks the 100th anniversary of the landslide that created Slide Lake.

Grand Teton National Park will host its own trail maintenance day at Schwabacher Landing from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tools and protective equipment will be provided.

National Trails Day, hosted by the American Hiking Association (AHA), falls on the first Saturday in June and is a day of public events aimed at advocacy and trail service. According to the AHA website, National Trails Day is a chance to “get outdoors, connect with your community and give back to the trails you love.”
