GRAND TETON NATIONAL PARK — Grand Teton National Park (GTNP) is ramping up its volunteer opportunities this summer.

The park will host a National Trails Day event on Saturday, June 7, at Schwabacher Landing. People of all ages and skill levels are invited to participate at the event, scheduled to run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tools and protective equipment will be provided. Expect to do trail maintenance work including mitigating social trails and moving fill material to restore the main trail, according to GTNP.

GTNP is also seeking volunteers throughout the summer and fall to help with various projects on “most Thursdays” starting at 9 a.m. Those interested in volunteering should contact Angela Timby with the National Park Service at (307) 453-1541 or angela_timby@nps.gov.

Ahead of the stewardship events, GTNP shared the following reminders for volunteers:

  • Respect the landscape: Stay on designated trails, know where hiking with dogs is allowed, and give wildlife space.
  • Keep it clean: Pack out all trash, leftover snacks, and yes, even that banana peel.
  • Prevent damage before it starts: Brush off boots before and after hiking to stop the spread of invasive species.
  • Be kind: Help make trails a welcoming space for everyone, whether they’re new to hiking or lifelong explorers.

“Whether you’re hiking in Grand Teton or your local park, you can be a steward,” GTNP posted to social media. “It’s about caring for the trails and making sure they’re still there for the next hiker to enjoy.”

GTNP advises visiting americanhiking.org for other volunteer opportunities on National Trails Day and beyond.
