HOBACK, Wyo. — County officials are working with the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) to get final approval on a piece of land on the east side of the Hoback traffic circle for a new fire station.

In 2022, voters passed a $15 million Specific Purpose Excise Tax (SPET) initiative to go toward planning, designing and constructing a new station in Hoback. Upgrades to the Hoback and Wilson fire stations have previously been identified as high-priority projects for Teton County. The current Firehouse 3 on the west side of the traffic circle was built in 1981, according to Jackson Hole Fire/EMS.

Fire Chief Mike Moyer told Buckrail that JH Fire/EMS has been working with WYDOT for about a year to identify a suitable piece of property for the station. At an October 2025 Board of County Commissioners’ (BCC) meeting, the commissioners approved a resolution requesting WYDOT’s relinquishment of an appropriate parcel. The site is considered an “ideal location” for the new firehouse, per BCC staff notes, with safe ingress and egress, and optimal placement in the community for emergency response and general operations.

“WYDOT is waiting to hear back from the Federal Highway Administration on a final approval from them,” Moyer said. “Then it goes to the WYDOT Transportation Commission for their final check-off. And then we would be ready to start designing on that Hoback station.”

On Tuesday, the BCC approved a memorandum of understanding that outlines plans for a future fire station near Jackson Hole Golf & Tennis Club.
