LARAMIE, Wyo. — The University of Wyoming (UW) announced Tuesday that its board of trustees had approved a new Bachelor of Science degree program in ranch management and agricultural leadership.
The interdisciplinary major will educate students in animal science, rangeland management, agricultural business, resource management, leadership skills and practical problem-solving, according to UW.
“UW Ag leadership has put together a thoughtful program with inputs from across the state,” UW Trustee Macey Moore said via press release. “Students who graduate with this degree will find themselves prepared with the ability to navigate a diversity of roles in agriculture for their entire careers.”
The program will launch in fall 2024 in the College of Agriculture, Life Sciences and Natural Resources. Coursework will be complemented by internships and hands-on learning opportunities in the industry.
“The topics of ranch management and ag leadership are arguably more relevant to Wyoming than any other state,” Wyoming Department of Agriculture Director Doug Miyamoto said via press release. “Wyoming is also the smallest state in terms of population, which means our agricultural sector must punch above its weight and take on leadership roles.”
