UPDATE 2:20 p.m.: As of 2:19 p.m., the alert for the US 189/191 closure through Hoback Canyon has been canceled and the road is open in both directions.

HOBACK, Wyo. — According to the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT), US 189/191 will close through Hoback Canyon on March 15 at 1 p.m. for avalanche mitigation.

The closure is expected to last two hours, but mitigation effort results may increase or decrease that timeframe.

Drivers should expect intermittent closures with up to 15 minute stop delays and must obey roadside flaggers between Hoback Junctionct and Pinedale from milepost 147 to 158.

Reduced visibility and increasing avalanche hazard may force an earlier closure. The March 14 Bridger-Teton Avalanche Report stated that natural avalanches are possible in the steep, low elevation terrain surrounding Jackson Hole due to valley warming.
