WYOMING — U.S. Attorney for the District of Wyoming Darin Smith has issued a strong missive following antisemitic threats made by a Casper man.
According to a Friday announcement by Smith’s office, Derek Fulfer, 31, “unleashed a string of antisemitic threats” in March 2025 by way of four consecutive phone calls to Anti-Defamation League (ADL) offices in Colorado and Texas. He reportedly left voicemails that included antisemitic slurs and explicit threats of violence targeting Jewish people. ADL staff contacted federal law enforcement immediately. The FBI traced the calls to Fulfer, who admitted to making the calls, claiming that the threats of violence were protected speech.
Fulfer was charged in a federal criminal complaint on Aug. 19, 2025, for transmitting threats in interstate commerce, according to Smith’s office. He waived indictment and pleaded guilty to U.S. District Judge Scott Skavdahl on Jan. 8, and he was sentenced on April 3 to 12 months and one day of incarceration in federal prison followed by two years of supervised release. Fulfer was ordered to self-surrender to the Bureau of Prisons by June 1.
Smith’s office issued the press release titled “Antisemitism will not be tolerated in Wyoming!” on April 10, in which Smith is quoted as saying:
“Jewish Americans have every right — not as a courtesy, not as a privilege, but as Americans — to live, to worship, and to serve their communities free from threats of violence. Let there be no confusion about what happened here. This was not political commentary. This was not satire. This was not protected speech. This was a calculated attempt to terrorize people because of their faith. And it failed. To those who would threaten the Jewish community — or any community of faith — in Wyoming or anywhere else in this country: we see you, we will find you, and we will prosecute you to the fullest extent of federal law. Not on my watch. Not in this district. Not in America.”
