JACKSON, Wyo. — Teton County Search and Rescue (TCSAR) volunteers responded to two separate callouts Sunday for individuals who were injured while mountain biking.

TCSAR received the first call at 1:28 p.m. about a man who had crashed his mountain bike riding the Blondie Trail on the western slope of the Tetons. The man sustained injuries to his elbow and was suspected to have a head injury from the crash. He was unable to stand or walk and had cracked his helmet.

TCSAR Incident Command initiated a helicopter rescue due to the nature of the victim’s injuries and the complexity of the terrain. The man was extracted by an interagency ship with Jenny Lake Rangers performing a short haul.

“Thank you so much to the Jenny Lake Rangers for assisting on this rescue,” said TCSAR.

Later that afternoon, TCSAR received a second call about a woman who had landed on her shoulder and head while attempting a jump riding Fuzzy Bunny off Teton Pass. The call came in at 4:10 p.m. and several volunteers were still returning from the call out earlier that day. However, they were well-positioned to respond directly from the top of the pass and begin care.

Additional team members mobilized from the TCSAR Rescue Hangar in a RZR. The woman was packaged and transported via wheeled litter to the RZR.

Both patients sustained injuries while riding technical trails with jump features, says TCSAR.
