JACKSON, Wyo. — Heavy snow fell yesterday afternoon into the night, giving Jackson the first powder day since Feb. 21 when 10 inches was reported at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort.

The snow caused travel challenges for motorists on Teton Pass. The pass closed just after 5 p.m. until nearly 10 p.m. due to winter weather conditions. A tour bus got stuck traveling the pass.

The resort reported 20 inches in the past 24 hours, more than the forecasted 6-13 inches.

The fresh snow brought morning traffic as skiers and snowboarders hustled over to Teton Village to vie for the first turns on untouched powder.

Avalanche danger was increased to considerable the Teton range as well as the Grey’s River range. Togwotee Pass avalanche danger is moderate.

According to Buckrail Meteorologist Alan Smith, the next chance of snow will arrive on Sunday as a storm approaches from the Pacific Northwest. Confidence is low in the storm track as models are in poor agreement on whether or not the storm track will be far enough south for the Tetons to see meaningful snow or if the storm stays too far north.
