WYOMING — A pileup of 18-wheelers on Interstate 80 near Rawlins last week resulted in one fatality.

Wyoming Highway Patrol troopers investigated a collision involving several vehicles on Wednesday, March 13 at approximately 9:37am. The fatal crash occurred at milepost 219 on I-80 east of Rawlins, Wyo.

While troopers were investigating a crash involving two semi-tractor trailers, a 2006 Peterbilt with two trailers collided with the previous crashed tractor-trailers. One driver who was involved in the earlier crash was outside of his vehicle when this collision occurred. That driver became trapped between his trailer and the tractor portion of the other vehicle causing fatal injuries.

The victim was identified as Life Maisha, 28, of St. Louis, Missouri.  Maisha succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the crash.

The driver of the 2006 Peterbilt has been identified as 44-year-old West Jordan, Utah resident Craig Hutcherson. Hutcherson was wearing his seatbelt and did not sustain injuries in the crash.

No other injuries were reported with this crash.

Speeding too fast for the winter road conditions are being investigated on the part of Hutcherson as a contributing factor to the crash.  The road conditions were slick with ice and blowing snow.

This is the 29th fatality on Wyoming’s highways in 2019 compared to 15 in 2018, 19 in 2017, and 10 in 2016 to date.
