Trauner hopes to do well and do good as head of Silicon Couloir

JACKSON, WY — “You can do good by doing well, and you can do well by doing good.”

This is the philosophy Gary Trauner hopes to bring to Silicon Couloir as the organization’s new executive director. Silicon Couloir is a non-profit organization grown from a need to connect aspiring and experienced entrepreneurs with the resources they need to succeed and based in Jackson. Trauner started his new job on Monday, and dove right in.

What he means by his philosophy is that a business is more than its assets — or, perhaps, people are a business’s most important assets. The most successful businesses, he said, are the ones that “make our community a better place.”

“I want to make sure that even businesses that are not social enterprises understand the community they’re operating in, and are willing to recognize how important it is to give back.”

This job feels like a natural step for Trauner, even though his career path “has not been a linear one.” He’s always been an entrepreneur, and the common denominator in all of his endeavors, from running for national office to serving as the COO of St. John’s Medical Center, is the desire to make a difference.

“Even running the lacrosse club is one of the coolest things I ever did,” Trauner said.

“I’m driven by my passion to make a difference. I hope and think that this will align with that. We’ll see how it goes.”
