JACKSON, Wyo. — It’s no secret that when you live in the Tetons, you live and die by the motto: work hard, play hard! And boy do we ever! Whether on two wheels, two feet, all fours, two skis, or one board, our mountains are why most of us are here. Many of us transition from season to season never giving much thought to preparing our bodies and minds for the new activities that accompany each new weather pattern, most of us, that is, except for the trainers at Pursue JH.

Pursue JH is Jackson Hole’s first and only comprehensive fitness studio, offering training specifically designed to improve strength + cardiovascular and muscle endurance + flexibility. Pursue offers a range of workouts designed to target every area of your body including, Barre, Yoga, Mat Pilates, Conditioning, HIIT, Cycle, Megaformer, and Boxing. During the summer months, the instructors at Pursue adjust their class programming slightly to accommodate for bodies that will be spending more time hiking, climbing, running, and biking. For example, in their signature Condition classes, the ratio of cardio to strength training is typically a 50/50 split, however, because so many people are playing outside in the summer, they decrease their time spent on cardio and increase time spent on strength training.

The Pursue JH trainers recommend members and athletes hit the gym a minimum of 3 times per week to continue focused core strengthening, mobility and coordination training and stretching. A lot is expected from the hip flexors in the summer months and Pursue wants to teach you how to keep your body moving functionally so you learn how to recruit from your core – rather than spend your days complaining of tight hips, or, worse yet, get sidelined with a hip or lower back injury.

Pursue’s signature Megaformer class, which incorporates the Lagree Method, is also designed to lengthen your body, while at the same time strengthen. Ever see the long lean lines of a dancer? Dancers are required to find their center of gravity 100% of the time by recruiting from their core, the Megaformer creates a similar experience with its tension platform that moves underneath you. It’s like doing a lunge on a paddleboard – you’ll wobble, you’ll shake, and you’ll sweat. But you’ll also leave feeling longer, taller, and stronger than ever before. The arm work performed on the machine is the perfect complement to all the rounding of the shoulders and hunched over positions we find ourselves in while mountain and road biking. The emphasis in this practice is on position, posture, and alignment first then movement second; so you’ll always be working muscles that counter and support your summer activities.

Finally, every BODY can benefit from the lengthening and rejuvenating work performed in yoga. Flexible muscles are far more resistant to injury and have far more strength potential than tight muscles.
