A vehicle fire was reported to emergency dispatchers around 12:35 p.m., according to Teton County (Idaho) Fire & Rescue Chief Mike Maltaverne. Fire engines from Victor and Driggs responded as more reports came in, describing a travel trailer with flames quickly spreading.

Crews arrived to find the vehicle totally engulfed in flames, and began to attack the fire to keep it from spreading to the nearby trees and vegetation, Chief Maltaverne said. The camper had been disconnected from the vehicle towing it, which was unscathed.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze and prevented it from spreading up the hillside, and there were no injuries among civilians nor firefighters, according to Maltaverne. Jackson Hole Fire/EMS crews also responded to the scene as part of a mutual aid agreement between the two agencies.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined; Maltaverne said the owner of the camper said the camper’s gas had been shut off, and he wasn’t aware of any brake problems.

The camper was determined to be a total loss.
