JACKSON, Wyo. — During the Town Council meeting on Monday, Jan. 22, County Commissioners approved a cooperative agreement between the Town and the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) to spend Federal aid Urban Systems funds to pay for the design and construction of “Safe Streets,” also referred to as complete streets, on Willow and Gill.

The Willow and Gill Safe Street Projects will include pedestrian and bicycle treatments and traffic calming measures intended to make the street safer for all users; specific treatments will be determined through the design process, per the Town report.

The approved agreement between the Town and WYDOT will initiate a preliminary survey of both streets’ existing conditions, as well as a safety analysis. WYDOT will assign an engineering consultant to write a Draft Reconnaissance Report to document field inspections, assess existing conditions, make work recommendations and identify engineering and environmental studies required.

According to the Town, WYDOT has agreed to pay for 90% of the project’s needed funding and the Town of Jackson will fund the remaining 10%.

The Jackson Urban Systems committee prioritizes projects on roadways that qualify for Urban Systems funds. The highest priority project for the committee is the completion of Willow and Gill Safe Streets.
