JACKSON, Wyo. — All three water wells in West Jackson are back online and functioning at full-service, according to a Tuesday announcement by the Town of Jackson (TOJ).

TOJ had issued a request for town businesses and residents to reduce their irrigation practices on Friday, July 4, when one of the West Jackson wells was experiencing issues.

“The Town of Jackson thanks the community for reducing irrigation over the last several days as we managed a mechanical issue and strain on our water system,” TOJ’s Tuesday press release reads. “The community’s participation helped avoid water restrictions and resulted in a 40% reduction in water use.”

Now that the water system is back to normal, TOJ is encouraging the community to consider curbing water use in the hottest part of the summer. Following this incident, Teton County/Jackson Parks and Recreation is considering possible adjustments to its irrigation plans for parks, fields and Town and County facilities.

“Remember that water is not an endless resource,” TOJ’s release states. “Consider reducing irrigation using only what you need.”

TOJ encourages taking the following steps to conserve water:

  • Raise mowing blades to 3-4 inches to improve water retention
  • Consider watering four days a week, or only on odd or even days
  • Change to weather-based irrigation systems with sensors
  • Plant native plants that require less watering
  • Don’t water on rainy days
  • Consider setting sprinkler times outside of the popular 10 p.m. to 12 a.m. window, when the sun is not bright, to stagger the draw on Town water systems.
