JACKSON, Wyo. — With recent discussion in the community about the future of the Rodeo Grounds, the Town issued a statement today to verify that the Jackson Town Council has not had any formal discussions about the Rodeo or Fairgrounds beyond renewing leases for both entities through 2026.

In the last month, The Fair Board made a formal request to discuss the possibility of requesting SPET funding to relocate the fairgrounds and last week a community group hosted a discussion focused on keeping the Rodeo grounds where it is.

“The Town has supported the Rodeo and Fair to take place on its land for many decades and has committed to continue to do so in this same location for, at least, four more years,” said the Town in a statement this morning. “The current leases that both the Fair and Rodeo hold go through 2026. The Town is equally invested in supporting our shared western heritage and finding solutions for current challenges facing our entire community.

Additionally, the Town said that staff has tentatively scheduled time to lead Council through initial dialogues about what type of public process should be undertaken to explore possibilities for this area of town in 2022, once the planning process for Northern South Park is complete.

The Town stated that it is committed to making ample time for the entire community to engage on this topic before any final decisions are made.

“No one at the Town has any intention of changing the use of the Fair or Rodeo Grounds without thorough planning, a broad look at all options and possibilities, and ensuring there are places, whether at the current location or elsewhere, for events like the Fair and Rodeo to continue to take place within our community. “
