JACKSON, Wyo. — Long-time Town of Jackson (TOJ) employee Johnny Ziem has been appointed Public Works Director, according to a Friday announcement from the Town.

Ziem has worked for TOJ for 28 years, beginning with START Bus then going on to manage the wastewater division. The news release stated that he served as assistant director of Public Works since 2018, when he moved to interim director of the same department about four months ago.

“Johnny has plowed streets, fixed pipes, run the treatment plant, overseen construction projects, and helped map the Town’s infrastructure and systems,” Town Manager Tyler Sinclair said via press release. “With his hands-on perspective and willingness to work through challenges, the Town is grateful for his service and ability to step into this leadership role at Public Works.”

Ziem has overseen construction projects like the Fleet Maintenance Facility, worked on the Town’s geographical information system (GIS) and improved energy efficiency in TOJ buildings. He is currently overseeing construction of the new Stilson Transit Center and collaborating with the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT), as well as working on stormwater planning.

Ziem studied architecture at the University of Florida, then traveled extensively before relocating to the Idaho side of the region, where he served on Victor’s City Council. In addition to working with TOJ, he is also a current board member of the Flat Creek Watershed District.
